Chevy pinch-hits for joe

When Mets manager Bobby Valentine learned that one of the cops assigned to Shea Stadium in the aftermath of the World Trade Center attack had lost a best friend who worked at Cantor Fitzgerald, a boy with whom the cop had grown up in Valley Stream and who had been best man at his wedding, Valentine sent over a box of cards, hats and baseballs signed by himself and Mets ballplayers.

The cop, John Hanrahan, of Farmingdale, brought the gifts to the newly widowed Helen Zaccoli, whose husband, Joe Zaccoli, a bond broker, had been on the 104th floor of the first tower to be hit, and whose body miraculously was one of the few recovered following the mass murder. In the awful mist of memories from that time, Helen now recalls how especially thrilled by the Mets' gesture was her oldest child, Joseph Zaccoli, then 13 and an eighth grader, and how difficult was the atmosphere in the house as the Christmas holidays grew nearer.

Utah shooting victims were shopping for rings, presents

SALT LAKE CITY -- Vanessa Antrobus was meeting her husband at a jewelry store to pick out the wedding ring they couldn't afford when they got married. A.J. Walker and his father were buying Valentine's Day cards for their family. Teresa Ellis was celebrating a bonus she'd gotten at work.

They were among the victims when a teenage gunman opened fire Monday in a crowded shopping mall, killing five people and wounding four.

Sulejman Talovic, 18, began his rampage in the evening, just as the Trolley Square mall began to fill up with people eating dinner at its five restaurants or shopping .

Talovic died in a shoot-out with police, and investigators have not determined a motive for the attack.

Antrobus and Richard Quinn were married four years ago but didn't have enough money for a ring.

Nayar and Liz Hurley are ready for Indian wedding

British model-actress Liz Hurley and her Indian-born businessman husband Arun Nayar played a cricket match with their guests under floodlights at the opulent Umaid Bhawan Palace Hotel.

The celebrity couple arrived in India to tie the knot again in traditional Indian style. Hurley and Nayar married at a private ceremony in England on March 3.

"A cricket match under floodlights was played in the hotel premises and a pitch had been constructed specially for the purpose," Monsters and critics web site quoters sources at Hotel Umaid Bhawan Palace.

Nayar's team defeated Hurley's in the match.

On Friday afternoon there will be a sangeet ceremony to be followed by an Indian-style wedding.

White horses, elephants and priests blowing conch horns will star in the Hindu nuptials of actress, who wraps up a week of lavish wedding celebrations in India on Friday.

Free-for-all at Liz-Arun wedding

Arun Nayar and Elizabeth Hurley's four-day-long wedding celebrations hit a sour note in Jodhpur with irritated journalists clashing with local police and Hurley-Nayar's private British security guards.

The press has been kept strictly off limits, reportedly because the one-time model and her businessman husband have sold rights to a British magazine. Tempers were frayed by the close of the day's ceremony, and when a journalist banged against the couple's Bentley, police and security guards took it upon themselves to resort to a lathi charge.

The journalists responded by storming the barricade at around 9 p.m., and trekking the one km distance to the main gates of Umaid Bhavan, only to find them barred.

But journalists are not the only people who are miffed.

Grand wedding reception in Jodhpur

After a secret wedding on March 2 at the Sudeley Castle in Gloucestershire, Western England, Elizabeth Hurley, the 41-year old British actor and model and her Indian husband 42 year old Arun Nayyar arrived in Mumbai to proceed to Jodhpur. Heritage Hotel Umaid Bhawan Palace, Jodhpur is all geared up for the wedding reception of celebrity couple, British actor Liz Hurley and India-born businessman Arun Nayar. The much-awaited union is a three-day lavish affair in Jodhpur on March 8, 9, and 10. Jodhpurs Maharaja Gaj Singhs Umaid Bhawan Palace has been booked from March 7 to 10 for the Nayars.

Gair folk dance, a Rajasthani dance form performed on the occasion of Holi, at Nagaur Fort, was the special event on March 8 for which all male guests sported saffron colour turbans, while ladies wore pink coloured sarees.

Horses, elephants to star in Hurley's Hindu wedding

White horses, elephants and priests blowing conch horns will star in the Hindu nuptials of actress Elizabeth Hurley, who wraps up a week of lavish wedding celebrations in India on Friday.

Hurley, 41, her 42-year-old husband Indian businessman Arun Nayar and their 240 guests are enjoying the kind of pageantry once reserved for maharajahs as they shuttle between palaces and an ancient hilltop fort around the historic city of Jodhpur, in the desert state of Rajasthan.

Nayar will trot down the aisle astride a white horse accompanied by caparisoned elephants and camels at the climax of the wedding, members of staff at the wedding venue said.

Hurley, who has been staying at the grand, sandstone Umaid Bhawan Palace, will sport elaborate henna tattoos after she and her female guests took part in a traditional mehendi ceremony.

Liz-Arun: Rajasthani wedding atop a hill

JODHPUR/JAIPUR: Vows exchanged in a 15th century castle in western England and now a Rajasthani wedding in a 26-acre palace atop a hill.

Barmer carved furniture, silk cushions and Rajasthani quilts for guests to sit and relax, Kalbeliya, Langa and Ghoomar folk dancers for entertainment - one can't think of a wedding bigger than this.

Two days after their church wedding, Hollywood actress Liz Hurley and her India-born businessman husband Arun Nayar sought fool-proof security cover for their stay at Hotel Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur.

For the four-day mehndi-sangeet-pheras extravaganza from March 7, a three-layer security arrangement has been made. While the first layer will be taken care by personal security, the second layer will involve hotel staff.

Six months ago, right before our 27th wedding anniversary, I found out from my husband he fathered a child with a woman. The child is now 20. He confessed because I found receipts in his wallet that were child support payments made to the mother. I snooped because I knew he was hiding something and I was desperate to find clues.

This affair happened during a difficult period. We'd been married seven years, and he lost his business. I remember thinking how distant he was, but my religion and faith made me always believe the best about him. Although I knew something was up, I never imagined he'd had an affair. I always chalked his behavior down to depression.

He and the woman signed some sort of agreement whereby he would help her financially, but otherwise would remain anonymous.
